Great movies about midlife romance
Great cast! So true to life, and the main character played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus is hilarious as she tries to navigate a new relationship with a man she is really starting to like. The problem is that she has a client who is the ex-wife of this guy, and everything suddenly becomes more complicated.
I loved this live on Broadway in New York, and I loved the movie version. ABBA is the music I grew up with, and the writers were so creative when they came up with this story line. The cast is incredible, and if you haven’t seen this one, please put on your must-watch list. And, I had no idea that there was a sequel, so don’t miss Mama Mia, Here We Go Again with the same cast, plus great new additions!
This movie is about learning something new to fill some of the emptiness of the empty nest and reconnecting with someone you love. There are so many hilarious characters, and some great dance scenes! Who can resist Richard Gere in a tux??
Bit of a stretch on the story line, but as we all are thinking about those pension plans, begs the thought about what would you do if yours suddenly disappeared? Love Emma Thompson and Pierce Brosnan!
This is more of a bro-mance. Two good friends reconnect after not seeing each other for 20 years. They decide to walk the Appalachian Trail together.
This one makes me laugh! I love Tina Fey and Steve Carrell. They are great together on this adventure night they have instead of a quiet dinner date they had planned.
I watched this last summer, and it was great! Michael Douglas plays a real jerk, but through a set of circumstances, he comes around. Between all of his neighbors, his hilarious secretary, and his darling granddaughter, he really doesn’t have a chance to not get better. Sort of a modern day Grinch.
I had not heard of this one, but a friend just recommended it to me, and I will be watching it tonight when my husband is out of town! It’s based on a Roald Dahl book of the same name and stars Judi Dench and Dennis Hoffman, so it must be great! I will take off of this list if I am disappointed.
Helen Hunt plays a woman who is left by her husband in the middle of wanting a baby. She is found by her birth mother, and her adoptive mom dies. A lot to take in! Through this, she begins to see the dad of one of her students at school. This is a slice of life movie, which I loved more because she plays a teacher. Great cast: Bette Midler, Colin Firth
A midlife encounter with “the one who got away.” Fun pair!
This one is hilarious! So many twists and turns in the complicated rekindling of love or is it?
I have always liked this movie! It’s a great story about falling in love again for one, and the first time for the other.
Slice of life romance about an out-of-work guy who goes back to college and meets a gal who’s a professor for his class. Sweet story.
This one was hard to watch for me when I first saw it. Tommy Lee Jones plays such a curmudgeon and pretty much jerk to his wife. Meryl Streep is great as the wife who wants more.
There are so many awkward moments! Steve Carrell as the marriage counselor is great, and I am sure he had a really hard time keeping a straight face when they filmed this! I love how they grow as a couple and figured out a way to keep their marriage alive.
Finding love again later in life is sometimes not what you are looking for. I LOVE Sam Elliot -that voice!
A comedy about the heartbreak of love. Falling in love, falling out of love, staying in love, first crush, all the loves are entangled in the great story that helps us all to know that love is worth it.
A 40-something widow is engaged to be married again. But, is he the right guy for the rest of her life? Classic…
Oh my gosh! What love. Heartbreaking and raw and real. I loved this one, but make sure you have some kleenex handy. I love how they loved each other, and could laugh and cry together through it all!
Sally Field plays Emma, a single mom, new to town, not interested in love woman. Enter Murphy to sweep her off of her feet by being a good man.
Erica, a successful writer, ends up taking care of the womanizer who has been dating her daughter. Harry is set in his ways, but somehow the week that these two spend together change both of them. Erica learns to relax a little, and Harry learns that a more mature woman is a great thing. I loved this one!
Kevin Kline and Sigourney Weaver reconnect as former high school loves. It is so funny -I loved their chemistry in another movie, Dave.
