You would not think that there would be so many great movies about New Year’s Eve, but I did my research and found so many great movies about New Year’s Eve! I chose movies that had either the theme of New Years or a key scene took place on the holiday.

Great movies about New Year’s Eve
These movies are in ABC order to find them easily! My criteria was no horror (some of them have this element!), and it must have a least one important scene about NYE. These are the best movies to watch on New Year’s Eve!
Four strangers change their minds about ending it all on NYE, and they decide to make a pact to meet again in 6 weeks to check in on each other.
A little boy teaches a rich and cynical young man how to be a grown up.
A couple who believe in love and want it, are thrown together on NYE with hilarious results.
The woman of his dreams waits for a time traveling man. Such a fun one for New Year’s Day!

I never had seen this one because I wasn’t sure of the premise of the story. But, I am so glad that I saw this one! Blake Lively is wonderful in this role, and you will get all the feels from this movie. Sadness, regret, love, joy…
Classic! True love that doesn’t work out, but then it does. Love all the references to this in Sleepless in Seattle.
Another classic starring Gene Kelly who plays a soldier who decides to stay in Paris after WW2. He and his best buddy fall in love with the same girl…
A fun twist on a fun road trip flick-bottom line, it’s a disaster!

Really bad cops try to take over a police station on NYE. A sergeant has to rally the good guys, which in this case include prisoners, to protect themselves.
Loved this one! Bridget is 30+ and looking for love in all the wrong places and getting herself into all sorts of messes.
The nerd loves the most popular girl. Hard to believe Ronny grew up to be Dr. McDreamy…
Great cast! Set in the late 50s, and the diner is the place where it all happens for a set of young friends.

True story of a woman’s self journey through three different countries and three different focuses.
Nicolas Cage plays a man confronted with “What if…?” He gets a glimpse into a life he might have lived over the holidays with life-changing results. Our family loves this one!
There is one scene where it is NYE. Because I love this movie so much, I am including it in this list. Start watching at 10:38:57 PM and you’ll ring in the New Year at midnight with Forrest and Lt. Dan.
This one looks hilarious. Four different directors put this one together about four different story lines connected by the bell boy in a hotel.
This is an oldie with cast members who were popular in the 80s. It’s the story of a pair of crooks who disguise themselves to rip off an exclusive jewelry store. Will they be successful?

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
If you start watching Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix at 10:24 pm tonight, Fred and George will be setting off fireworks at midnight for New Year’s!
Classic story of opposites attract. Add in music and dance and you have a hit. Even my boys loved this back in the day!
With Cary Grant and Doris Nolan -swoon! I was unfamiliar with Nolan, but this is a fun classic set over the holidays!
Two completely different women switch houses for the holidays to escape their lives. Great rom-com!
Fred Astaire and Bing Crosby combine to make a holiday classic. I love this one so much!
This was a fun one to rewatch. I was a teenager when I first saw this back in the day. At that time, I related to Winona’s character and all of her questions and lack of life experience. Now, as a mom, I loved Cher’s character. And, she was such a good mom. Trying her best in a world where she was such a unique character. This had all the feels!

This has a great collage of actors who all have fun intersecting story lines. If you haven’t see this one, I think it might be my favorite for this holiday.
I am a purist, so I only am choosing the original. Not sure that the remake used the same story line with funny scenes at the NYE party.
Think Big Chill. Ten years after college, a group of friends gather with dramatic results at their friend, Peter’s place for New Year’s Eve.
NYE on the ship Poseidon. Giant rogue wave. Fire, flooding, sketchy power. A few survivors. What will happen?
Love story from afar. Grieving widower ends up on a talk radio show because his worried son calls in. Lovelorn women all over the country want to help him get over the grief, but there is one in particular who might just be the right one. But, she is already engaged to be married. Watch An Affair to Remember first!
Such a great movie, It come up as having a NYE scene, but I don’t remember it. I will have to watch again.
The storyline for this is fun. Great cast, and lots of laughs!
The great Jay Gatsby as seen through his younger neighbor. New Year’s is one of the outrageous parties that he witnesses.
Two women who have failed at love decide to switch houses for the holidays. They each find someone new, but two weeks is not very long.
Comedy classic about a bet between 2 old men about 2 younger men. The results are hilarious.
Great chick flick! Friends who are each in different life spaces gather together for support and the bonds of friendship.

Harry and Sally share a ride to NYC after college graduation. Sally instantly dislikes Harry. They keep running into each other over the years, and a friendship is formed.
Lucy rescues the man of her dreams on the subway. While he is in a coma, she is befriended by his hilarious family, and the real man of her dreams turns out to be someone else entirely.
