Backyard Engagement Party Ideas

It has been engagement season for our family. Two of our children have gotten engaged in the last 4 months. Both engagements were celebrated with engagement parties. My husband and I, along with the bride-to-be’s family, gave a surprise backyard engagement party. I hope these Backyard Engagement Party Ideas will help you as you plan your special event.

This engagement party was planned completely online or through text messaging with my son and the bride’s sister. We were pleased we were able to book a location, food, decorations, and favors for a party in California without leaving our home in Oklahoma.

Backyard Engagement Party Ideas: Choose the location

If you have a backyard that will fit a party, you are halfway there. We needed to rent a place in Southern California where our son and his fiancee live.

We hosted the party in this VRBO in Universal Studios, California. We chose this home because they allowed parties for an additional fee and our family was also able to stay in the house. It had a large yard with patio furniture and a pool! They heated the pool for the party. It was so fun to hop in the pool at the end of the evening. It was the perfect spot!

Backyard Engagement Party Ideas: Food

Food for a backyard party is usually more casual. Roadside Tacos was close to the home and they catered a delicious taco bar for us with lots of left overs for the engaged couple to take with them.

We ordered decorated engagement ring and heart cookies and a scrumptious chocolate cake for dessert. Porto’s Bakery made the delicious cake.

The personalized cake topper was ordered from an Etsy shop by the bride’s sister.

Backyard Engagement Party Ideas: Decorations

You have to have a welcome sign! It is the perfect spot to take pictures. I used this sign from Etsy as my inspiration and designed it myself on Canva. I had it printed at Staples. We went to Michael’s and got balloons. Don’t forget to get an easel for your sign.

I saw these engagement ring pool floats on Amazon and could not resist them. They were a hit with not only the future bride and groom, but also with the siblings who were staying at the house and stayed in the pool after everyone left. ;)

Backyard Engagement Party Ideas: Favors

I had these “We’re Engaged” cups made for the party – a completely usable favor at the party and after.
