Host a College Care Package Party
One of the best ways to get together with other college moms is to host a college care package party. Creating care packages for your college kids with other moms (or dads) is also one of the easiest gatherings to host. Everyone brings an item to pack in the care packages. You supply the boxes, tape, and maybe a few snacks. Halloween care packages and winter finals care packages are the most popular occasions for a care package party.

Host a College Care Package Party
This is such an easy and fun party to have! Find other parents who want to send some love to their kids, and start planning!
I have listed the steps to host a college care package party along with ideas for the care packages.
Host a College Care Package Party Step #1: Invite some other college parents
Who should you invite to your care package party? Start with the moms of the kids your child grew up with – you know, the ones you sat on the bleachers with from coach pitch baseball through their senior year. You probably have not seen these other moms since, and you are ALL missing the camaraderie you had for so many years.
Another idea is to host a packing party for the moms in your area whose kids are attending the same college as your child. I have hosted and been to a few of these through the Baylor parent organization.
Host a College Care Package Party Step #2: Assign everyone something to bring
Everyone can either come up with their own items or you can make suggestions and have people sign up. Go to our 20+ Care Package Ideas page and click on the individual care packages for ideas of what to bring.
Tell everyone how many of each item to bring based on your RSVPs.
Host a College Care Package Party Step #3: Prepare the boxes and decorations
- Go to the post office and get a free flat-rate medium box for each person attending. You can also order these for free from USPS. Your mail carrier will deliver them to your house.
- Find the printables you want to use from our 20+ Care Package Ideas page. You are welcome to print as many copies as you need from any of our printable sets.
- You can tape the boxes together yourself or the easier way is for each person to tape their own box. Be sure to have enough box tape on hand!
- The box and item decorations will also need to be cut. A paper cutter is the easiest method for the straight cuts. Have several pairs of scissors available to cut out the item tags.
Host a College Care Package Party Step #4: Refreshments
Your refreshments can be very simple or more elaborate. I have a reader who loves to throw care package parties and she has sent me pictures over the years. Here is her set up for a football care package party. Your party does not have to look like this! Some water bottles and a plate of cookies are fine!!
Host a College Care Package Party Step #5: A Place for the box items
Set up a table for all of the items. A central location allows everyone to walk by and stuff their box with the goodies they would like to add to their box.
A work table is also very helpful, so you don’t end up sitting on the floor to put your care packages together.
Host a Care Package Party Step #6: Enjoy your packing party
Relax and enjoy your party. A college care packaging party is a wonderful opportunity for college parents to get together and talk about their kids and their experiences and also to share what is like having your child out of the nest.
